Strengthening Equality in the Workplace

HRC built on the momentum we experienced in 2011 – when a record number of companies embraced key criteria on our Corporate Equality Index (CEI) such as transgender-inclusive healthcare coverage – to continue ensuring equality thrives in workplaces across the country.  This year, the CEI saw the largest growth in the history of the survey, with 54 new companies participating.

The increased participation wasn’t the only good news from the 2013 CEI – we learned that a record 99 percent of companies prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation; 89 percent offer domestic partner healthcare benefits; and 84 percent prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. An incredible 252 businesses received perfect 100 percent ratings on this year’s CEI. 

We also launched the new Municipal Equality Index (MEI) this year – the first-ever report on LGBT inclusion in municipal laws across the country. Check out the report and learn more about how your city fared!

Learn more about all of the work HRC undertook in 2012 to bring about increased equality in the workplace.  We’ve seen tremendous progress over the past few years, and look forward to continued milestones in 2013.
