Statement from Human Rights Campaign on National HIV Testing Day

Today, Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, issued the following statement on National HIV Testing Day:

“Thirty years ago this month we saw the first published reports of AIDS.  In the years that followed we would see the devastation this disease had on our community and many others, including people of color.  We continue to fight HIV/AIDS with everything we have – time, energy, money, and research.  Although we have yet to find a cure, we know one effective way to reduce the infection rate is to know our HIV status.  Today, on National HIV Testing Day, we encourage everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or race, to get tested.  HIV/AIDS remains a crisis and we must all do our part to fight this disease in every way we can.”
