SPLC Sues Anti-LGBT Group for Misuse of Gay Couple’s Engagement Photo
September 26, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Coordinator
The Southern Poverty Law Center is suing the anti-LGBT group Public Advocate of the United States for unauthorized use of a gay couple’s engagement photo in an anti-gay political mailing.
The group is led by vehement LGBT equality opponent Eugene Delgaudio.
Public Advocate used the engagement photo of New Jersey couple Brian Edwards and Tom Privitere in an attack mailer against Colorado state Sen. Jean White, a Republican who supported the state’s civil union measure this spring.
After editing the background, the group overlaid the photo with anti-LGBT propaganda reading: “State Senator Jean White’s idea of ‘Family Values?”
