Special Election Today for Key Virginia Senate Seat

Polls are now open for a key Northern Virginia State Senate race.

With control of the Virginia state senate hanging in the balance, today residents in Fairfax and Loudon counties will determine whether or not the state Senate moves forward or not on LGBT and other issues.

The Human Rights Campaign has endorsed Democrat Jennifer Wexton in this special election to fill the vacancy created when HRC-endorsee State Senator Mark Herring won his race for Attorney General.

Wexton is running against Independent Candidate Joe May, who previously served the 33rd District in the House with an anti-LGBT agenda, and Republican John Whitbeck, who opposes marriage equality.

In a recent special election earlier this month, nine votes separated the winner from the loser. Every vote counts.

HRC is calling on fair-minded Virginians in the DC-suburb counties of Fairfax or Loudon (Senate District 33) to brave today’s snowy weather in the name of equality.

Voters are like snowflakes.  By themselves they are unique and delicate, but watch out for the power they wield when they stick together.  Brave the elements today and help plow a better future for Virginia.

Polls will close at 7 pm. Please check your voting card to find your polling place.

Paid for by Human Rights Campaign PAC. Authorized by Jennifer Wexton, candidate for State Senate
