Sherrod Brown Victorious in Ohio

Sherrod Brown has won his bid to retain his U.S. Senate seat in Ohio. HRC endorsed Brown, one of the few original lawmakers to vote against the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act. To support his re-election efforts, HRC sent a dozen volunteers to Ohio this past weekend to participate in Get Out the Vote efforts and featured Brown in nearly half-a-dozen fundraising emails to HRC members and supporters that reached an audience of 275,000.
In reaction to Brown’s win, HRC President Chad Griffin released the following statement:
“The entire HRC family offers Senator Sherrod Brown our congratulations on his re-election this evening. A supporter of marriage equality, he’s fought for our community his whole career, and we’re looking forward to working with him on issues important to LGBT people and our families over the next term.”
