Last week, 50 service members came together to celebrate the Department of Defense’s LGBT Month in Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. An hour long program was held and was attended by members of all five branches of the U.S. military. Members of the U.K. military and civilian contractors attended as well, according to Garth Langley.
U.K. Chaplain Squadron Leader Alex Hopson led the community in prayer stating, “You have broken down barriers. You have made rainbows dance in our eyes. You have offered us dreams that reach for the galaxies. You have awakened the long craving for love.” President Obama’s LGBT Month Proclamation was also shared.
This celebration is one of many at military bases across the world, including an Air Force Base in Germany.
The end of "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" has begun a new chapter for the nation's military. HRC thanks the brave men and women serving who have taken a lead to celebrate and embrace the LGBT community.
