Senate Judiciary Committee approves Eric Holder

Good news: The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee voted 17-2 this morning to approve Eric Holder's nomination for Attorney General. These are the Judiciary Committee members who voted in favor of Holder:

  • Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin)
  • Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania)
  • Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California)
  • Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah)
  • Sen. Russell D. Feingold (D-Wisconsin)
  • Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa)
  • Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-New York)
  • Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Arizona)
  • Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Illinois)
  • Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama)
  • Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin (D-Maryland)
  • Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina)
  • Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island)
  • Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon)
Voting against Holder were Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma). As you know, as a supporter of LGBT inclusion in hate crime laws, HRC supports Eric Holder being confirmed for Attorney General. Use our action alert to contact your U.S. senators and encourage them to vote for Holder when his nomination goes before the full Senate. A vote on Eric Holder's nomination for Attorney General before the full Senate could happen as early as Thursday.
