Supreme Court Countdown: 12 Days Out
March 14, 2013 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Senior Digital Strategist
In less than two weeks, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on two cases that are about whether LGBT Americans should have the same opportunities as everyone else.
The two cases – which concern California’s Prop 8 ban on marriage equality and the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act – are going before the Court as support for equality reaches an all-time high. In fact, recent polling shows that 54 percent of Americans support marriage equality and 75 percent view the freedom to marry the person you love as a basic Constitutional right.
HRC is working with a coalition of LGBT and allied groups, United for Marriage, to show the broad and diverse support for marriage equality outside of the Court during the hearings. Wear red and join us outside the Supreme Court on March 26. To sign up and learn more, visit www.hrc.org/rally.
Can’t make it to the District? Stay tuned to the HRC Blog, along with HRC's Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for live updates.
