Same-Sex Spousal Benefits for Maryland Employees, New Resource

Maryland employees can now enroll their same-sex spouses as dependents for health insurance. Maryland's Attorney General announced in February that the state could recognize out-of-jurisdiction same-sex marriages. Gov. O'Malley's change to Maryland employee benefits is a strong step in the right direction. The HRC Workplace Project just released a new resource for employers: "Spousal Benefits: Recognizing Same-Sex Spouses for Benefits Programs." The HRC Corporate Equality Index will require spouses to be recognized as part of the new criteria effective next year.
