Romney Surrogate: Marriage Equality is Too “Complicated” to Discuss
August 30, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Former New Hampshire governor and Mitt Romney surrogate John Sununu waved off questions about whether he supported a federal marriage amendment banning committed same-sex couples from marrying, calling the issue too “complicated.” He made his remarks yesterday in an interview for the Michelangelo Signorile Show.
Both Mitt Romney and the GOP 2012 platform don’t support any type of relationship recognition for same-sex couples, and instead vow to vigorously support both the Defense of Marriage Act and a federal marriage amendment. When asked about the issue, Sununu deflected, saying:
“I don’t want to get into a debate on this thing…It is much more complicated than just throwing a couple of answers into a radio interview.”
Yesterday, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) broke with his party and Romney, and said he did not support a federal marriage amendment.
