Romney Headlining Commencement at Anti-Gay University
April 19, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Coordinator
This just in from the Liberty University press room: renowned LGBT rights flip-flopper Mitt Romney will be delivering the ultra-conservative university’s May 12th commencement address.
The Evangelical Christian college was founded by the late televangelist Jerry Falwell in 1971. Liberty forbids enrollment of openly gay students and prohibits “non-marital sexual relations” and a host of other “morally inappropriate” misconduct in its strict Honor Code.
In 2009, Liberty administrators disbanded the school’s Democratic club, claiming that the Democratic Party was out of line with Liberty’s mission and Christian doctrine with its promotion of “…the ‘LGBT’ agenda, Hate Crimes, which include sexual orientation and gender identity, socialism, etc.”
Mitt Romney’s decision to speak at Liberty is just another example of his willingness to toss LGBT Americans aside to court support from far-right extremists. Learn more about Romney’s anti-LGBT record at www.mittnmatch.com.
