Rhode Island House of Representatives to Vote on Marriage Equality Today

The air is full of anticipation as I and a few hundred others sit anxiously in the Rhode Island statehouse. The House of Representatives will vote on the marriage bill (HB 5015) this afternoon. Civil Unions were passed here in 2011, but this is the first time marriage legislation will voted on in the full house.

On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee voted 12-0 to send the bill to the House floor. With strong support, we expect swift action in the House. The bill would then move to the Senate with action expected there sometime in the Spring.

With staff on the ground, HRC is a proud member of Rhode Islanders United for Marriage, the broad and diverse coalition working to win marriage equality in The Ocean State.
