Rhode Island Becomes the 10th State with Marriage Equality

Post submitted by Eric Cameron, HRC Digital Media Specialist

Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee has just signed the state’s marriage equality bill into law in a ceremony on the steps of the Rhode Island State House. The bill passed the Rhode Island state House earlier today with bipartisan support.

HRC celebrated this historic victory moments ago by raising the Rhode Island flag above our D.C. office. Rhode Island is now the tenth state alongside the District of Columbia where gay and lesbian couples can legally marry.

HRC provided significant financial investment, staff and technical resources over many years to amplify the historic grassroots effort of the Rhode Islanders United for Marriage coalition. Find out more about HRC’s work in support of marriage equality in Rhode Island.
