Republican Gives Key Vote in Advancing Colorado Civil Unions
May 4, 2012 by HRC staff
The following post comes from HRC Regional Field Organizer Trevor Chandler:
Yesterday, a huge hurdle was overcome in the campaign to get civil union legislation passed in Colorado. Late last night, the House Judiciary Committee voted in favor of passage, a remarkable step that has not been achieved since the push for civil unions began. With all five Democrats on the committee voting in favor along with Republican representative BJ Nikkel, the bill now goes to the Senate Finance and Appropriation Committees.
If you live in Colorado, it is more important than ever to contact your representatives. Our friends at One Colorado can help you not only contact your own representative, but also thank Representative Nikkel for her brave vote.
We have never been closer to passing this legislation, and with your voice and stories we will be able to finally make this a reality. Click here to take action today. With our allies in the House and Senate, and more and more Republicans coming on board each day, the momentum is in our favor.
