Religious Community Responds to Nebraska Tragedy
July 25, 2012 by Sharon Groves, Director, Religion and Faith Program
Our prayers go out to all those affected by the horrific attack against a Nebraska woman this past weekend. Our bond with the community in Lincoln is strong and personal as many of our staff experienced the easy hospitality and generosity of spirit of so many in Lincoln when we were there for the HRC bus tour last summer and earlier this summer when our new president, Chad Griffin, joined HRC.
We are particularly grateful to our dear friend Rev. Stephen Griffith, who has been instrumental in the prayer vigils this past weekend. As Rev. Griffith reflects, “regardless of our faith, we have a responsibility to speak up and speak out to help end the violence.”
We trust that the police will get to the bottom of this senseless hate crime, but in the meantime we at HRC stand in solidarity with the LGBT and allied community in Lincoln as they grieve the senseless violent attacks against one of their own.
