Reaching Out to Asian American Pacific Islander Community in Washington State
October 20, 2009
This post is from HRC's field organizer Adrian Matanza working in Washington State:
Last night, I phone banked for the Approve Ref 71 campaign with APIAVote, a nationwide organization focused on voter mobilization and civic participation in the Asian American Pacific Islander community. The group works with existing campaigns to increase voter turnout within the AAPI community. I presented to the group the importance of voting Approve and how the AAPI community's support of the referendum would be critical in winning this election. The phone bankers called King County (Seattle area) AAPI voters in their native languages of Vietnamese, Cantonese and Mandarin. The group will be phone banking from now until the election making sure to increase turnout within the AAPI community. You can learn more about what APIAVote is doing nationwide by visiting their website. From now on, every day is Election Day and your help is needed to turnout voters. If you can join us at any of our phone banks, please contact me, at [email protected]. And for those of you outside of Seattle, Tacoma, Vancouver, and Spokane, and especially those outside of WA state, you can also phone from home. Visit the campaign website, approve71.org to sign up!
