Protecting All LGBT people In Jacksonville, FL
August 13, 2012 by HRC staff
This post comes from HRC Phone Band Coordinator Kate Kramer:
Last Thursday, HRC welcomed another group of super volunteers to our Thursday phone bank. We made over 250 calls to voters in Jacksonville, Florida and asked them to leave messages for Jacksonville councilmembers requesting their support for a fully inclusive non-discrimination ordinance. Voters in the city left almost 40 messages for their representatives!
Along with returning volunteers Suzanne and CD, we were also joined by first-time phone bankers Jeff (pictured, far left) and Michael (far right). When we finished Jeff said, “I was nervous about calling strangers, but the calling is fun. It was really nice to get involved with something in person. This was an awesome experience.” Thanks for your help, Jeff!
Volunteering is always more fun with someone you know. Can you and a friend join us for another “awesome experience” next week to make calls and advance equality? We’ll have two phone banks next week – one on Wednesday and one of Thursday. We’ll provide all the equipment and training, and dinner will be provided. As we move into summer in this critical election year, we have even more need to contact voters in key states about ballot initiatives and critical legislation. To RSVP send me a message at [email protected] or call me at 202-216-1524. Hope to see you soon!
