This post comes from HRC Editorial and Digital Media Intern Leanne Naramore:
As Maine’s November 6 vote for same-sex marriage approaches, Billboard chart-toppers fun. are using their platform to support the referendum. The band behind pop hits “We Are Young” and “Some Nights” announced they will donate proceeds from their Halloween concert to Mainers United for Marriage.
The members of fun. have been consistently vocal about their commitment to the LGBT community. This fall, their Campus Consciousness Tour will focus on “mobilizing college students to actively support LGBTQ equality, both in their lives and in the voting booth.”
The October 31st concert in Portland, Maine, kicks off the tour in an effort to rally voters to mark “Yes” on Question One.
Mainers United is holding “Yes on One” rallies across Maine today. Portland Mayor Michael Brennan will speak at downtown’s City Hall, where Mainers United will be signing people up to volunteer with the organization. Events are happening across Maine, and you can find a rally in a city near you.
Watch fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff talk about the band’s alliance with LGBT people in his Americans for Marriage Equality video.
No matter where you live, you can make a difference in Maine. HRC has set up a special fund – HRC Maine Families PAC – to direct 100 percent of your contribution to help win marriage equality in Maine. Together, we can mobilize the majority of Mainers who support marriage equality and win at the ballot this November.
