Polling Shows Growing Support for Marriage Equality in Nevada

In a new poll released by the Retail Association of Nevada, bipartisan support for marriage equality is at a new high of 54 percent. This comes on the heels of big marriage equality wins last election cycle and as marriage equality legislation is being debated in several statehouses across the country.

In 2002, 67 percent of Nevada voters voted in favor of a constitutional amendment excluding same-sex couples from marriage. The significant change in voters’ opinions about marriage equality in Nevada over the past decade mirrors recent national polling.

To change or repeal a constitutional amendment in Nevada, the state legislature, without gubernatorial approval, must approve the change in two consecutive legislative sessions; the bill then must be approved by voters in the next election cycle by a simple majority.
