Poll: Tammy Baldwin Leads All Four Republican Challengers in Senate Race
August 10, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Associate
With the Wisconsin primary just days away, a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports shows Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin leading all four of her potential Republican challengers in Wisconsin’s U.S. senate race.
Rep. Baldwin’s closest challenger is Eric Hovde, whom she leads by three points. Former Congressman Mark Neumann and former Governor Tommy Thompson trail by six and seven points respectively, with Jeff Fitzgerald behind by more.
A champion in the fight for full equality, Rep. Baldwin is the founder and co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. She is the first and currently only out lesbian elected to Congress. Should she win the open seat, Baldwin would not only be the first woman to represent Wisconsin in the Senate, but also the first openly lesbian Senator in the country.
