Poll: Majority of Minnesotans Support Marriage Equality
April 26, 2013 by Trevor Chandler, Associate Regional Field Director
As momentum builds to a vote on marriage equality in Minnesota in the coming weeks, a new poll out today shows what we’ve known for a while on the ground here, that a majority of Minnesotans support marriage for same sex couples and want the legislature to take action.
A KSTP/Survey USA Poll shows 51% of Minnesotans believe that the time to take action is now. It’s worth noting that this particular poll has traditionally had marriage equality efforts on both the Vote No and current marriage campaign at a bigger disadvantage than most other polls. This means it is likely that support is even greater than it says.
With only weeks to go before a full vote in the House and Senate, HRC is on the ground and working with Minnesotans United to make marriage happen in Minnesota. As one of the original coalition partners HRC has committed well over $1 million since the start of the campaign to defeat the anti-gay constitutional amendment and has continued to support the effort through today.
Regional Field Organizer Trevor Chandler has been in Minnesota for the past year working with the Minnesotans United campaign. He serves as Political Director of the campaign.
