Photo of the Day: Ugandan Leaders Speak to HRC Staff
March 30, 2010
This morning, African leaders working to end the violent conditions for LGBT people in Uganda spoke to the HRC staff while in Washington to brief American officials on the conditions in the country. Along with representatives from the Council for Global Equality and an official from UNAIDS, Frank Musgisha -- the spokesperson for Uganda’s leading LGBT rights organization, Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) -- and Rev. Dr. Kapya Kaoma -- author of the recent report published by Political Research Associates, Globalizing the Culture Wars, U.S. Conservatives, African Churches, and Homophobia -- shared an update on the proposed "anti-homosexuality" law in Uganda and efforts to fight back against some American evangelicals exporting a message of hate to the continent. The pair will appear at an event tonight in Washington, DC, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Foundry UMC Church at 1500 16th Street NW, Washington DC 20036.
