Phoenix offers domestic partners hospital visitation rights
February 11, 2009
Couples lined up early in Phoenix, AZ on Monday to be among the first to take advantage of the city's new domestic partner registry. The registry, which was created by the Phoenix City Council in December, grants unmarried LGBT and straight couples visitation rights at hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities. Tucson is the only other city in the state that offers a domestic partner registry. While the registry only grants medical visitation rights at this time, the extension of these rights to LGBT couples is a step in the right direction.
