Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey Supports Marriage Equality

Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is the latest U.S. Senator to announce his support for marriage equality.
In his official statement, Sen. Casey refers to a moving letter he received from a woman in Southeastern Pennsylvania, writing: "I can no longer in good conscience take a position that denies her and her family the full measure of equality and respect."
Congratulations to our partners at Equality Pennsylvania who worked tirelessly over the past few weeks, organizing hundreds of calls and emails to the Senator’s office sharing stories from Pennsylvanians about why marriage equality matters to them. HRC was proud to support their effort through social media.
Just last week, five U.S. Senators publicly embraced marriage equality within a 72-hour period, including Senators Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Mark Warner (D-VA), Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), Jon Tester (D-MT) and Kay Hagan (D-NC).
We now have 48 senators who support marriage equality, including 45 Democrats, two Independents and one Republican.
The upswing in support from elected officials mirrors nationwide polling, which shows that 58 percent of American voters support same-sex marriage.
