Peace rally planned, donation fund established after gang-rape of California lesbian woman
January 8, 2009
On Saturday, January 10, community leaders in Richmond, California will hold a peace rally in Nicholl Park following the arrest of two men and two teenagers suspected of sexually assaulting a Richmond woman on December 13. The victim says her attackers repeatedly gang-raped her while taunting her for being a lesbian - and then left her naked outside an abandoned building. Richmond is a city of 100,000 located across the bay from San Francisco. Local authorities have added a hate crime enhancement to the charges of one of the men indicted, Humberto Hernandez Salvador, 31. The Bay Area Reporter, the region's largest LGBT newspaper, has more detailed coverage of the attack and the local community's response. The Richmond Police Department has established a donation fund for the victim at the Community Violence Solutions and Rape Crisis Center.
