Paul Oetken Nomination Passes Senate Judiciary Committee
April 7, 2011 by Ty Cobb, Director of Global Engagement
This morning, by a unanimous vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee sent Paul Oetken’s nomination to become a federal judge to the Senate floor. Today’s vote follows a brief and uncontroversial hearing before the Committee in mid-March and places Mr. Oetken one step closer to becoming the second openly-LGBT, Article III federal judge and the first openly gay man appointed to an Article III federal court. When confirmed, Oetken will join Judge Deborah Batts to become the second openly LGBT judge serving in the Southern District of New York. The confirmation will now come to a vote before the full Senate.
