Earlier today, over 70 people of faith and 30 ministers from the Hawaiian Islands gathered in the rotunda of the Hawaii State Capitol calling on lawmakers to do the right thing and vote in favor of SB1, the Marriage Equality Bill of 2013. Amid opponents working to derail the organized press conference, The Rev. Dr. Jonipher Kwong, a Unitarian Universalist minister in Honolulu, and one of the strongest supporters of marriage equality, led the group in saying that marriage equality is right for Hawaii and is in line with the Spirit of Aloha.
After over 55 hours worth of testimony, many think a Hawaii State record, the House committees on Finance and Judiciary voted in favor of an amended bill to send to the full House. Currently, the full House is hearing a second reading of the bill, which is typically procedural, however, opponents have introduce amendments in order to stall a second reading and ultimately final passage. You can watch the proceedings live here.
