Over 200 Join HRC on Capitol Hill
March 7, 2011 by Anthony Moll
Last week, HRC leadership from around the country met in D.C. for our spring lobby day. Over 200 pro-equality advocates were on Capitol Hill pushing on issues like HIV/AIDS Funding, Anti-Bullying legislation, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the Tax Equity for Health Plan Beneficiaries Act.
Board members, steering committee members and other leadership were joined by HRC staff to push lawmakers on the issues that affect our community. Armed with the knowledge that nearly 90 percent of Americans believe that lesbians and gays should have equal rights in job opportunities, that 87 percent of Fortune 500 companies include sexual orientation in their equal employment policies, and 41 percent also include gender identity and that Americans across the country support legislation that will keep our students safe, our team made it clear to lawmakers that the American people are behind the idea of fairness and equality for everyone, and that HRC and our allies will continue to push with all that we have to make that a reality.
