Out Grammy Nominees and Allies Lead the Pack

Have you seen the nominee list for Sunday’s Grammy Awards? Whichever genres you’re following, it’s sure to be a big night for LGBT artists and their outspoken allies.
Out singer-songwriter Frank Ocean leads the pack with six nominations, including nods for Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Record of the Year. After describing falling for another man in the liner notes to Channel Orange, Ocean received an outflow of support from Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, Beyoncé and countless other industry leaders.
Equality advocates fun. have also racked up six nominations. Guitarist Jack Antonoff joined HRC’s Americans for Marriage Equality campaign in May, and the band toured college campuses this fall to raise awareness for LGBT rights. Learn more about their work by visiting The Ally Coalition.
Tegan & Sara, who partnered with HRC last year, got a nod for their music video for "Get Along." And out lesbians Ellen DeGeneres, Rachel Maddow and Janis Ian are all nominated for Best Spoken Word Album.
Whether it’s Carrie Underwood or P!nk, Audra McDonald, Kathy Griffin or Margaret Cho, this year’s Grammy nominees reflect a new American norm in their widespread support for LGBT equality. Be sure to tune in and root them on Sunday night!
