Earlier this week we profiled a few of the openly LGBT athletes competing in this year’s Olympic games, including three Americans.
Doubles tennis player Lisa Raymond, WNBA champion Seimone Augustus and women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe will all take to the field and courts in the upcoming weeks, with LGBT Americans looking on with particular pride to see high-profile, top-ranked athletes competing so openly and courageously on the world stage.
While these LGBT athletes are teammates and competitors first and foremost, they are also highly visible role models who send a powerful message to LGBT youth and all who watch the games that LGBT people can compete and inspire just like anyone else.
What do you think? We want to hear why (and if) it matters to you that these Olympians are openly LGBT. Sound off below.
