Openly Gay Pa. Rep. Blocked From Speaking on House Floor, Opponent Cites “God’s Law”

On Wednesday, Pa. Republican Rep. Daryl Metcalfe blocked openly gay Rep. Brian Sims from speaking from the House floor about the marriage equality cases, claiming that his comments would be “open rebellion against God’s law.”
Rep. Sims, who told NewWorks that his intention was to relay the significance of the cases, is now calling for his colleague to be reprimanded by Pa. legislators.
However, Metcalfe maintains that his religious beliefs compelled him to prevent Sims from speaking:
“I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion against God’s law,” he said to WHYY of Philadelphia.
