Openly Gay Attorney One of Six Nominated to District Court Today
July 26, 2013 by Robin Maril, Legislative Counsel, Administrative Advocacy
Yesterday, President Obama issued six judicial nominations for the United States District Court, including openly gay attorney Judith Levy to the Eastern District of Michigan. Levy currently serves as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Michigan and has served as the Chief of the Civil Rights Unit for that office for the past three years. Previously, she was a trial attorney for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 1999 to 2000. Before becoming an attorney, Levy worked at the University of Michigan Hospital and served as the bargaining chairperson for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees for six years.
HRC is pleased by Levy’s nomination and we are confident that her knowledge and expertise will serve Michigan well. HRC has worked with Levy throughout this process and we were honored to submit a letter of support for her nomination.
