One Year of Marriage Equality in New York
July 23, 2012 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Senior Digital Strategist
Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of marriage equality becoming law in New York, thanks to the hardwork of countless fair-minded Americans.
From our New Yorkers for Marriage Equality video campaign to our coalition work, HRC was a major force in the fight for marriage equality in the Empire State.
Over the course of four months, HRC spearheaded the largest field efforts in the organization’s history, delivering more than 53,000 post cards from constituents to state senators, generating more than 44,000 emails and 11,000 phone calls from New Yorkers to state lawmakers and running twice-weekly phone banks.
The issue of marriage equality is at a critical time as it moves through electoral, legislative and judicial arenas. Though public opinion continues to shift in support of marriage equality nationwide, full marriage equality remains a hard-won battle.
Learn more about our victory in New York, as well as our efforts to spark a national conversation about the power of love, fairness and equality.
