One Million Moms Claim Gay Comics will ‘Confuse’ and ‘Brainwash’ Kids
May 25, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Coordinator
This week, we cheered on Marvel and DC Comics for their high-flying leaps forward on LGBT inclusion.
DC co-publisher Dan DiDio recently announced that a previously straight character would be reintroduced as gay. And Tuesday, Marvel unveiled cover art for the upcoming same-sex wedding between Northstar and his civilian boyfriend.
The issues haven’t even been released, and One Million Moms is already blasting the publishers for “using children's superheroes to desensitize and brainwash them in thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable.”
Children desire to be just like superheroes. Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, 'I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?'
We can imagine, and we hope for the day when all parents support their children for who they are and who they dream to be.
Per usual, the Moms fantasize about a universe where children never have to learn that LGBT people exist. It’s an impossible and dangerous vision more out of touch with reality than the comic book storylines they’d like to ban.
