“On the Road to Equality” Inaugural Stop Underway in Salt Lake City
August 13, 2011
We have certainly hit the ground running here in Salt Lake City. Yesterday we kicked off the national bus tour, “On the Road to Equality,” with a bang at the Utah Pride Center. It was an exciting day with our partners at Equality Utah, the Utah Pride Center, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon. And our day didn’t end after the ribbon was cut.
Following the inaugural press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony, we put our dancing shoes on and headed to Club Sound in Salt Lake City where we threw a big party called Club Equality to raise money for the Utah Pride Center. The night featured Miss Gay USA and our friend Gavin Creel and raised awareness of the national LGBT movement and what’s going on right here in Utah.
With the inaugural day of “On the Road to Equality” behind us, we have an exciting lineup of events here in Salt Lake City, beginning this afternoon with a workshop called Pathway to Acceptance: Supportive Families, Healthy Communities. After that we’ll host an open house bus display at Hotel Monaco and HRC President Joe Solmonese will lead a presentation on the state of the LGBT movement today. For the complete schedule of events visit www.hrc.org/roadtoequality.
“On the Road to Equality” is off to a great start. We look forward to the rest of our time here in Salt Lake City. It promises to be an informative and empowering time.
