Oklahoma House Committee Rejects Anti-LGBT Bill
February 28, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Associate Director of Communications
The Oklahoma House Judiciary Committee voted down the discriminatory HB 2245 yesterday afternoon by a 6-5 vote. The bill – pushed by rabidly anti-LGBT state lawmaker Mike Reynolds – would have limited protections for municipal employees to only those available to state employees.
Oklahoma's non-discrimination policies do not cover sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Equality Network (TEN) – a statewide advocacy organization for LGBT political and legal rights in Oklahoma – led the fight against this legislation. HRC recently worked with TEN to stop another piece of anti-LGBT legislation from Rep. Reynolds that would have re-instated a more extreme version of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the Oklahoma National Guard.
