NY Attorney General Calls on Senate to Pass GENDA
May 22, 2013 by Lynne Bowman, Regional Field Director
Yesterday in a letter to senate leadership, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman expressed his support for the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act and called for its passage. With this public letter, AG Schneiderman adds his voice to the thousands of New Yorkers who have pushed for years to see the bill passed.
In 2003, the state of New York passed employment protections based on sexual orientation. However, discrimination based on gender identity and expression is still legal in the state.
HRC is a member of the New York Trans Rights Coalition and we are working with our partners to change the law and add New York to the other sixteen states, plus D.C., that protect people based on gender identity or expression.
