North Carolina is Fired Up Against Amendment One—and Going to the Polls
April 23, 2012 by Karin Quimby, Political & Education Director, Project One America
I was in North Carolina recently to drop off more HRC computers at Protect ALL NC Families campaign offices across the state and was overwhelmed with the excitement and determination of volunteers who were flooding these offices—preparing for a massive get out the vote (GOTV) effort and on the phones with voters day and night.
What strikes me every time I am in one of our campaign offices are the volunteers who come from all walks of life and span the age range—from youth to retirees. Close to one half of all our campaign volunteers come from the faith communities that we have helped mobilize. And most volunteers are straight folks calling and canvassing on behalf of their friends, family, neighbors and co-workers who will be harmed by Amendment One.
Our phone banks are not just happening at designated campaign offices. There are dozens of phone banks across the state being run in churches and synagogues by passionate, dedicated North Carolinians who believe that ALL children and ALL families deserve the same protections.
To get involved, contact a campaign office near you. Not close to one of these offices? Call anyway. Our field staff will direct you to a phone bank near you, or instruct you on how to call our supporters to get them to the polls from the comfort of your own home.
Early voting has begun in NC—find out where you can vote. We need our supporters to vote early and then come out and help us make sure every fair-minded North Carolinian goes to the polls by May 8. It’s now or never, folks.
