NOM in North Carolina: Mean As a Rattlesnake
April 24, 2012 by Kevin Nix, Campaign Media Director
You better believe the National Organization for Marriage is going whole hog in North Carolina. The vote is May 8, early voting has begun, and polls are tightening. NOM and its cohorts have gone on the air today with a textbook ad, which includes this classic construction: “Everyone, gay or straight, is free to choose but nobody has the right to redefine marriage.” Okay, but the amendment on the ballot is not about marriage; it is about outlawing civil unions and domestic partnerships – gay and straight. The amdendment endangers children. Protect All NC Families explains how:
• A child of an unmarried parent could lose their health care and prescription drug coverage, putting the child’s health at risk.
• A child could be taken away from a committed parent who has loved them their entire life if something happens to the other parent.
• Amendment One threatens existing child custody and visitation rights that are designed to protect the best interests of a child.
Make no mistake: this amendment is mean as a rattlesnake. Our side needs to defeat this terrifically anti-gay proposal. Please, donate to the campaign here.
