NOM Going After another Iowa Justice
August 13, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Two years after taking the unprecedented step of politicizing Iowa’s judicial system and ousting three justices who ruled in favor of marriage equality, NOM and the Family Leader’s Bob Vander Plaats are at it again, targeting another justice – David Wiggins – as he comes up for a retention vote this fall.
NOM is pledging $100,000 for the effort, just as Vander Plaats announced a new campaign aimed at unseating another Supreme Court Justice in the Hawkeye State.
At a Family Leader event this weekend, Vander Plaats stuck to vague messaging when explaining the rationale behind the campaign to fiddle with the justice system:
This is about freedom, not just about marriage…We see this as a freedom and constitutional issue important to all Iowans.
This politicization of Iowa’s judicial system by NOM is meant to send a chilling message to judges across the country: adhere to NOM’s extremist anti-LGBT agenda, or else.
