No Time Left to Sit on the Sidelines in Virginia

I have been an organizer for the HRC in Virginia since the end of August. I am based out of Newport News, which is a part of the Hampton Roads region of the commonwealth. As the son of a family who immigrated here nearly 40 years ago, along with being born and raised in the state of Virginia, I believe this gubernatorial election is a vital opportunity to send a message to the rest of the country.
During my time working for the campaign, I’ve had the chance to meet wonderful volunteers who are committed to electing candidates that support equality. One of the volunteers I’ve worked with is Meena. I called Meena one night off of a list of HRC supporters in Virginia. She had never volunteered for a campaign before. We chatted about how important this election is and that proponents of equality can’t afford to sit on the sidelines. Meena joined me to knock on doors and make phone calls to ensure that we do everything possible to win this election; she did a phenomenal job.
In addition to meeting great volunteers like Meena, I have also had the opportunity to introduce our endorsed candidate for governor, Terry McAuliffe, at an event we were holding in our office and to hear from our candidate for lieutenant governor, State Senator Ralph Northam. Northam has stressed how critical the issue of equality is, and how as Virginians we need our commonwealth to be open to everyone.
It’s been exciting working to elect our ticket of McAuliffe, Northam, and Herring. I cannot believe that we are less than two weeks away from Election Day! Now let us get out the vote and win this race for advocates of equality everywhere.
