NFL Player Chris Kluwe’s Defense of Marriage Equality

MN United for All FamiliesThis post comes from HRC Communications Intern Nick Gumas:

Minnesota Vikings punter and LGBT rights activist Chris Kluwe recently wrote a powerful letter to Maryland Delegate Emmett Burns after the Maryland lawmakers lashed out at Brendon Ayenbadejo for the Baltimore Ravens linebacker’s vocal support of marriage equality in Maryland.

Responding to criticism of his statement, Kluwe says that “the difference between my letter and Mr.Burns’ letter is that, yeah, while my letter on the surface may seem shocking, what Mr.  Burns did with his words was absolutely a disgrace to the English language, because he’s trying to use the English language to oppress someone else.”

The Vikings punter is now campaigning for marriage equality in Minnesota, which will vote on an anti-marriage equality constitutional amendment this November.

HRC is a proud supporter of the coalition, Minnesotans United for All Families, working to defeat the amendment banning same-sex marriage in the state.  HRC has set up a special fund – HRC Minnesota Family Freedom PAC – to direct 100 percent of your contribution to defeat the anti-marriage constitutional amendment in Minnesota.
