New York Assembly Again Passes Gender Identity Protections
March 4, 2010
For the third time and with an overwhelming vote of 91-40, the New York Assembly has passed GENDA -- a bill to extend employment protections to New Yorkers on the basis of gender identity. The bill faces an uncertain future in the NY state Senate, however, as the Senate recently defeated a marriage equality bill. However, legislative allies continue to push hard and advocates have worked harder and smarter and have grown in number. HRC continues to support efforts in the Empire State not only to support a fully inclusive New York State Human Rights Law, but is also working hard to secure key New York congressional support for a fully-inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act at the federal level.
