New Study Shows Inclusive Workplace Environments for LGBT Employees Are Crucial for Career Growth

A new study by the Center for Work-Life Policy called “The Power of Out”, featured in the July/August issue of the Harvard Business Review, discusses the loss to companies and to their bottom line when they don’t create a safe and hospitable workplace for their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees. The study details the consequences when LGBT employees are forced to keep their lives and loved ones a secret from colleagues. Click here to read the article from the Harvard Business Review.
According to Sylvia Ann Hewlett, founding President of the Center for Work-Life Policy and a coauthor of the study, “Organizations that encourage all of their employees to bring their whole selves to work have the greatest opportunity for innovation and growth.”
Currently almost 90% of all Fortune 500 companies in the United States prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and more than a third (43%) prohibit discrimination based on gender identity.
