National Suicide Prevention Month Comes to a Close
September 30, 2013 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Associate Director of Digital Media
As September comes to an end and we welcome the beginning of a new month, let us remember that the work to raise awareness of the preventable, second leading case of death among youth continues all year-long.
In the last 45 years, suicide rates have increased by 60 percent worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. Suicide is among the three leading causes of death among those aged 15-44 years in some countries, and the second leading cause of death in the 10-24 years age group.
HRC proudly joined the Trevor Project and national partners in the mental health, education, suicide prevention, youth and LGBT communities to mark September as National Suicide Prevention Month.
The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBT youth. To get help and learn more about suicide prevention, visit http://www.thetrevorproject.org
