More than 500 companies have signed on in support of basic protections for LGBT Missourians. Support for the Missouri Non-Discrimination Act (MONA) continues to grow as the end of session nears.
Adding sexual orientation and gender identity into the Missouri Human Rights Statute is absolutely necessary for the 160,000 LGBT adults in our state. Business and organizations of all sizes, from every part of the state have good policy, and they are urging lawmakers to do the right thing by supporting equality in public accommodation, housing and the workplace. The city of St. Louis and the Office of Kansas City Mayor Sly James support MONA as do the Bar Association of MO-St. Louis, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Kansas City, and Mid-America Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
Here are a few of the Missouri-based companies support MONA: Sprint, Monsanto and Express Scripts, and Fortune 500 Companies: ConAgra Foods, J.P. Morgan Chase and Pfizer. Burns & McDonnell placed 14th on FORTUNE’s 2014 list of 100 Best Companies to Work For, and Polsinelli made the Inc. 5000 list.
Other companies of note include: Thompson Coburn LLP, Bryan Cave, Pinnacle Entertainment, Isle of Capri Casinos, Penn National Gaming, Affinity Gaming, H&R Block, Kansas City Power & Light and Husch Blackwell in Kansas City.
MONA is still moving forward. Session ends on May 16, and we have every reason to be positive. To learn more about MONA, please visit www.MOworkplaceequality.com
