More DADT Repeal Events in Indiana
March 24, 2010
This post on our continuing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal organizing in Indiana comes from HRC organizer Nick Veach: Last Thursday, the Voices of Honor Tour 2010 came to the Hoosier state. On the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, the tour continued its effort to organize and activate advocates who support the DADT repeal. The event brought together both gay and straight veterans who served under DADT along with activists who are organizing for repeal. Guest speaker Jarrod Chlapowski, military consultant to the Human Rights Campaign and veteran Korean linguist to the US Army spoke about the personal affects of DADT as well as the harm it causes to military readiness. After words from Chlapowski, attendees watched the PBS documentary “Ask Not” which illustrates further affects of DADT. Also in attendance was Indiana State Representative Mary Ann Sullivan who has been an advocate for gay rights at the state level. Veterans and activists ended the event by signing postcards to send to Senator Evan Bayh urging him to support the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” In the upcoming months, Adrian and I will be in the Hoosier state organizing veterans and advocates. We'll be continuing the Voices of Honor Tour in every corner of Indiana with events like this in South Bend on the 30th, Evansville on the 1st and in Hanover on the 8th. We 'll be back in Indianapolis on the 11th to Thank Rep. Andre Carson for his support repealing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'
