HRC is proud to be a part of the Marylanders for Marriage Equality campaign, a broad-based coalition working to bring civil marriage equality to the Free State. And over the last few weeks, the campaign has kept the momentum going.
Earlier this week, we saw a crowd of supporters attend a state Senate hearing on the marriage equality legislation in Annapolis. Governor Martin O’Malley – who proposed the historic legislation several weeks ago – was among those who testified in support of the legislation. Also testifying was Penny Nichols. Check out Penny’s moving testimony about why she supports marriage equality:
A diverse range of voices are increasingly speaking out in support – the Washington Post recently endorsed the legislation in an editorial. And just a few weeks ago, civil rights leader Wade Henderson, President of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, wrote an op-ed for the Baltimore Sun urging African-Americans to stand behind the fight for marriage equality.
Watch HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse make the case for marriage opposite Maryland’s GOP Chair Alex Mooney. At one point, Mooney says: “Frankly, homosexual people should be happy to live in this country, they have equal rights as everybody else.”
