Mobilizing Washington in Defense of Marriage Equality
October 28, 2012 by Maureen McCarty, Online Content and Marketing Manager
Tonight HRC President Chad Griffin was on-site at the Washington United For Marriage Capitol Hill Action Center, working to mobilize fair-minded Americans in Washington to get out and vote for equality on November 6.
Later Chad addressed a crowd of over 300 people outside of Seattle's St. James Cathedral as part of Catholics for Marriage Equality's "Liturgy of Love: A moment of prayer, reflection and solidarity in support of Marriage Equality."
The Washington campaign has done tremendous work organizing faith communities in support of fairness and equality. We're proud to join them as part of our Religion and Faith program's continued work to build a diverse faith-based movement speaking out for equality.
We are just days away from election day, and a historic opportunity to defend equality at the ballot box. We’ve seen both defeats and victories before, but we’ve never had a better chance to send such a decisive pro-equality message.
HRC is undertaking the largest mobilization effort in the history of this organization—the final stage in a years-long effort to make 2012 a milestone for equality.
In Washington alone, HRC has invested $1.3 million in legislative and electoral efforts to secure marriage equality.
