Minnesotans United for All Families Campaign Continues to Grow

The following post comes from HRC Regional Field Organizer Mike Pfarr:

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks on the ground here in Minnesota! With the campaign to defeat the constitutional amendment banning marriage for same-sex couples in full swing, we continue to expand and have more and more conversations with voters. Just recently, the coalition created to defeat the amendment – Minnesotans United for All Families, of which HRC is a member – hired an additional 30 organizers. HRC has directly donated several more staff on the ground to help the grassroots field and coalition work that needs to be done.

Being based in Rochester, I have been a part of the campaign’s broad expansion into Greater Minnesota. The organizers and Organizing Director in the region have arrived and we have hit the ground running. As many of you know there is a seemingly never ending “to do” list when opening a brand new office!

We remain energized and excited to be part of the Rochester community and look forward to partnering with local organizations and groups to defeat this amendment.

And the energy isn’t just among staff, but the whole community. Our first volunteer recruitment phone banks have been successful. We’ll be kicking off our first canvassing efforts this Sunday. Rochester has been very receptive and we have had some great conversations with our neighbors and fellow community members about why marriage matters.

As we grow in Rochester, we are also looking to expand to other parts of southern Minnesota. We are scouting for offices in Mankato and Winona!

With many colleges and universities in the area, such as Gustavus Adolphus College, Mankato and Winona State University, we are building plans to reach out to young voters and college students.

It’s exciting to be a part of this historic and critical campaign. I am happy to report that the energy found in this campaign is dynamic and contagious. As we inch closer to November that energy will only multiply! Learn more about how you can help by visiting MNunited.org.
